After passing part one, part two and completing the necessary part 3 training you can start your job as a trainee driving instructor on what is called a Trainee Licence, also known as a Pink Licence. See below for more information on this route into the industry.

The Trainee Licence
Most new instructors begin their career on a trainee instructors licence before attempting the part 3 test. The trainee licence lasts for six months and allows you to teach real learners and get the valuable real-world experience to help you in preparation for the part 3 test. You will be paid the going rate when delivering these lessons, so essentially earning while you learn. There are conditions attached to the licence, one of which is you must have completed 40 hours of instructor training and complete the necessary declaration and complete a further 20 hours of instructor training whilst working on the trainee licence. Click here for more information. Your trainer will provide more detailed information too.
